Remembrance Day a Holiday?

remembrance day

In Canada, Remembrance Day is a federal holiday – except for in Newfoundland, Northwest Territories, Quebec and Ontario.

The discussion on if Remembrance Day should be a  holiday in Ontario has resurfaced once again.  Provinces such as Nova Scotia have a day off school for all students on Remembrance Day.

Are there benefits to being at school on this day, to reflect to question?Or, should this be a day as in 8 other provinces  where students can reflect at home or go to a war memorial with family or friends or whatever they feel is right for them.

Write a paragraph outlining your opinion if Ontario should make Remembrance Day be a holiday for all students.

I think that there should be a day off on Remembrance Day so that people could gather with there friends and family so that if they have anyone that had died in war they could remember them and the rest of the soldiers who had fought in the war.
so what i am trying to say is that I think that there should be a day off on Remembrance day.

I think students should go to school because some familys forget about the event. some familys take advantege beacause no one in there family was in the war. But some other familys have died in the war. If you go to school we do many poems about remeberance day.

No, Remembrance Day should not be a national holiday because when some people stay home, they don’t use their time for remembering and honouring those who died in the past wars or going to a ceremony. Instead, they do what they would normally do when they are at home; play video games, shop, sleep-in, go skiing etc. It is even more important for kids to go to school during Remembrance Day because they might have an assembly which children could learn from.

I think that Remembrance Day should not be a holiday in Ontario because some people when its a holiday like Christmas, Easter and other holidays they really don’t Remember anything about the war who died who’s alive family’s and more. They probably just relax have fun and don’t remember. Remembrance Day is about to think of people who died for us in the war. Schools should have actives dedicated to Remembrance Day because some of peoples family’s were in the war and they couldn’t make it alive. Some ideas are to wear poppy’s to have a moment of silence and the sing your national anthem also, they should have a debate on world war. Schools should take kids to the memorials. Some people make a sign that have people’s names on them and put flowers schools should take us their also. Sometimes people name their parks, streets, schools and church’s the people that died in the war. For far and all in Ontario Remembrance Day should not be a holiday!

My opinion is that Remembrance Day should be a holiday. I think this because kids should have the opportunity to think about the people who fought in the war. Kids also have the chance to go to various Veteran’s Day parades and marches with their mom or dad, to get a better understanding of what to do on Remembrance Day. Maybe the kids have grandparents or great grandparents who fought in the war and want to go to their tombstone and remember how they fought in the war. Kids can remember how back in those days if the commander of the military chose you to fight in the war you had no choice but to fight. If kids are going to the cemetery, they can place flowers on their grandparent or great grandparent’s tombstone showing that they remember him or her. These are the reasons why I think we should have a holiday on Remembrance Day.

remembrance day should not be a holiday in Ontario. First of all I think remembrance day should not become a holiday because the students might just stay home and not think of the soldiers who died and fought for freedom. Only one quarter of the students will actually go with friends and family to the memorial. Then if the students go to school they can actually have an assembly about the soldiers. After that they would have one moment of silence to think about the soldiers. Finally taking a day off for remembrance day will not teach the kids and students anything

I don’t think that remeberance day should be a day of work and scholl becausethere are ceramonies but will everybody go to them? I think they wont I think they will take it to there advantege and just hang around. They might also make it time to relaxe. If there was a day of then they should make it that everybody had to go to the ceram0ony or no day of. If theres no day of people ar not taking the time to there advantage. Any way we have a saramony at are school so we are in in the spiret

Remembrance day, a day to remember the soldiers who fought for our country, to make peace, freedom, so should we make it a holiday for all students? First of all, it should be a holiday so all of the the students can reflect and remember the people who died for our country. Also, they can stay home and celebrate how lucky we all are for having a free country. They could also go to a ceremony and remember the soldiers who died for us. That is why I think Remembrance Day should be a holiday.

remembrance would we really wear a poppy or go to ceremonies.,At school we give thanks to those who fought in war by having a moment of silence.
At home most people probably won’t even watch ceremonies or even have a moment of silence
Thats why we should go to school on remembrance day

I think we should get a day off for remembernce day because for those who would go to a war memorial and remember the fallen soliders who fought for our country. So in conclusion I think we should have a day off school to remember those who have fallen.

My perspective is that student should be at school because some kids they don’t care and they won’t do it. Instead they will be home just watching Television. But there is some people that when its the day off for remembrance day they go to the memorial they pray for each person when they died Those are the people that are trustworthy

In my opinion, Remembrance day should be a holiday because all those solders
gave their lives for are country so Canada would wouldn’t be taken over
by some other country and we should
have remembrance day as a holiday also
because that day reminds me when they solders fot at war. That was bigs risks those solders took , but luckly some solders survived.
