Kids working?

In Canada, there are restrictions on how kids work…where they can work….and when they can start working.  In this article: http://www.timeforkids.com/TFK/kids/specials/articles/0,28285,1043474,00.html

please read, respond and give us a “Your Say” paragraph on this complicated issue.   About 250 million (about 8 times the total population of Canada) children between ages 5 and 14 work. About half of all child laborers work full-time. Many kids work in hard and often dangerous jobs. They do not go to school. Experts agree there is a lot kids can do to help child laborers everywhere. We read Branded and this book addressed this issue.  How should we, Canada and  the world react to this issue now as it appears it is not going away?  Please give evidence from the text to support your answer.

Here are some websites that help support ending this problem.

Should Schools Change?

Do you agree with change or is school fine the way it is. Think about it for a moment.

100 years ago, there were one room school houses where 10 kids ranging from grade 1-8 were in one class….now there are classes that are taught entirely over the internet using web-cams.

Does our traditional view of  schools need to change and if so, how?

What are aspects of school that you like that you wouldn’t like to see change?

The Spelling Debate

We live in a world where texting, tweeting and instant messenging or writing messages on a DS is a part of who you are as learners. Is spelling no longer important in 2013? If you think this way then you probably believe that spell check, invented spelling and other ways of communicating are more important than spelling a word exactly or the way the dictionary says .  OR…. If you think that spelling tests, the dictionary and correct spelling is as important to you today as it was 100 years ago then you believe that correct spelling is very important.

Please explain why you think this…back up your answer and “check for errors..ooops…did I say that?”

Here are two articles that may help you:

Going Forward…

Hey friends,
After our report cards have gone home, it is important to reflect on ourselves….where do we want to go? Things we want to do differently, ways we can change our efforts, and to appreciate where we have come from since September. Your report card is chance to look forward. So, here’s tonights question.
Do we learn as much from our successes as we do from our misses?
Provide: a: a personal connection b: an example from another book or movie that ties into this. c: why did I choose this clip before tomorrow….whats my message do you think…and do you agree or disagree with me. Please answer these not as question a,b or c but rather include your responses in your paragraph.
