-Clear and to the point…you really did a good job explaining each reason for participating in Earth Day–Mr.Woods
Three things that can make us a little more greener…

    1. Recycle

    2.Don’t litter

3.Save paper (I should start doing that)

To me, earth day does matter because it is the day where everyone saves paper, this small thing helps us save trees. Also, it is the day where people do not litter… well at least they are told not to and should not. Earth day is also the day where people recycle and don’t just throw their juice box without even taking the straw out or just throwing it in the garbage. See….there are so many good things that people can participate with on Earth Day… which is good for the earth and what we all should be doing everyday.

This is the three reasons that can help us be a little greener and this is also why earth day is important!

Ananya…you made some very interesting points here. Good for you making Earth Day important….well done paragraph….Mr.Woods
These are the 3 things my family will do…

1- Walk to school or ride your bike instead of coming in a car

2- Don’t waste paper, you can use the back side too

3- Donate, reuse and recycle things instead throwing them into the garbage

Earth day does matter to me!!!! If we didn’t have Earth day we would never know anything about littering, pollution, recycling etc… If you walk to school not only will you pollute the air but will also get some exercise done. During earth day we also learn that you shouldn’t waste paper because it comes from trees and if they cut down trees animals wouldn’t have anywhere to live. Also we get the fresh air from trees. Recycling is also very important. Some people just throw juice boxes out but instead you can recycle it and it will be reused. You can even compost things like banana peels and after it will be made into dirt/soil instead of ending up in the dump. You might think throwing some things in the garbage won’t make a difference but it creates so many big piles of junk in the landfills.

So if we all walk, not waste paper, recycle and not litter we can make a big difference.

Sakshi..Rock Star lunches are a great idea…maybe we to start that up again for the whole school–
For “Earth Week”–Mr.Woods My family and I have

decided to recycle and use more

reusable things just like the time we

    had “RockStar Lunches” where everyone

    would bring wasteless lunches.

We are also going to walk/cycle to

close places when it is a good weather

instead of using the car. Cars use a

lot of gasoline and it pollutes the air.

We are certainly going to turn off

things that we are not using and what

we don’t need on like if I am in the

living-room and the bedroom light is on

    I will turn it off.

With these little little things I can

    make a difference.

I can do these things and if I do it

everyday we will use a tiny bit less

energy than I not doing these things.

I can tell other people to use less

energy and recycle and soon the people

that I told will tell someone else and

then everyone will know that we have to

    save energy and recycle.

That is what me and my family are doing

    for “Earth Week”.

Great Work Ariq on this paragraph. Your ideas were clear and interesting…and good for you for going to walk to school more and trying to do “little things” to make a difference such as turning of the lights–Mr.Woods
In 2009, the United Nations made April 22nd of every year the Earth Day to raise awareness of the Earth’s natural environment. It is now celebrated by people over 175 countries.
I have planned to do a number of things on Earth Day this year. The first thing I will do is I will try limiting the amount of lights I use in the house. Another thing that I will do is instead of playing video games or playing on the computer I will read a book or play a board game with my family. The last thing that is important for the environment is that instead of going to school in a car you can walk to school. These are three paragraphs that will talk about these three things.
Limiting the lights my house is important for Earth Day because lights are an everyday thing so it uses a lot of electricity. You don’t even have to use any lights at all, instead of lights you can use candles. I usually forget to turn the lights off and one of my family members reminds me to turn the lights off. This is why it is important to limit the amount lights you use in your house.
Most electricity produced burning coal and oil which makes carbon dioxide and that pollutes the air that animals and humans breathe. So using less electricity will help protect the earth.
Another thing that I will do is instead of playing on the computer I will read a book or play a board game together with my family. Since I play on the computer a lot it will be hard but Earth Day can be fun as well because it is a peaceful and quiet time with of your family. These are the reasons Earth Day can be fun.
The last thing that I am going to do during Earth Day is try to walk to school more often because going in a car uses resources like gasoline and engine oil. These two resources make gasoline which pollutes the air and that is very bad for the environment. This also affects us because it poisons our breathing air.
I am going to try to and limit these things now that I have realized what it is doing to our world.

Zoe…thanks for you opinion on participating on Earth Day….it’s true, I think it is the little things we need to do to make a massive difference–Mr.Woods
    1. Pick up some garbage in our neighbourhood.
    2. Turn off all the lights in the house.
    3. Not drive the car(walk) and we do not drive the car because the car will pollute the air.

Personally I do think Earth Day is important because it`s true nobody cares about turning off the lights, not driving to places, stoping global warming. We don`t normaly think about it, and if you think about all these important things well props to you. 😀 stoping global warming, turning of the lights, not driving to places,Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning. All of these things i mentioned are important. You would want to save our world, not kill it!

here is a website talking about helping the enviorment.

Thanks bye 😀 don`t forget to save our enviorment.!

Mackenzie…interesting what you said about trees and the need for oxygen. Finding more out about rainforests might be something you may want to look into. –Mr.Woods
1 Lower the amount of electricity
    2. Recycle
    3. Don’t drive as much
I think that earth day is really important. Some of these little things can really be bad for earth like driving pollutes the air. Also try not to use a lot of paper because it will reduce the amount of trees and we need trees for oxygen. See all these little things in life can affect our earth. We can change this though we just have to start doing little things like recycle, reduce the amount of garbage, reduce the amount of lights we use and for all of us to make a strong effort to not drive everywhere.

    April 15, 2012 at 3:27 pm (12 years ago)

Kirthan…thanks for your comments. You are making a difference. Also…thanks for the history lesson on Earth Day. I am sure it wasn’t too popular a day when the idea came about.–Mr.Woods
I am going to put more effort to recycle better

I am going to read more books instead of watching TV to save electricity.

I am going to use both sides of the paper more often.

Recycling better would decrease the amount of waste at land fills.

Reading books would use no electricity and watching TV does use electricity.

Using both sides of the paper would decrease the amount of trees being cut

YES Earth does matter because there is no other day to care about the environment so much.We usually save a lot of electricity on this day.Earth day also helps every single living thing on our planet.Earth day started in 1970.Since then we have saved a lot of electricity on this day. This year about 1 billion people participated.Which is saving a lot of electricity.
By doing Earth day we save a lot of animal lives and I like animals.
This is why I think Earth day does matter.

  8. Rhianne
    April 15, 2012 at 4:00 pm (12 years ago)

Rhianne…I love your paragraph. It is clear that you are working hard at your writing. Your message was positive… and hopeful that the planet you will enjoy when you are older will not be polluted. Very well said….we thanks you—Mr.Woods
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, these are the three things we need to remember every day and not just on Earth Day!

Three things that me and my family do are…
    1. Pick up litter. Yesterday, my sisters helped with the Rattray Marsh clean up and on Thursday, I will be picking up garbage at a park with my guide group.
    2. Turn the lights off in our house to save electricity.
    3. Save water by taking shorter showers. We also run the dishwasher and the washing machine very early in the morning or late at night to save water and electricity.

Earth Day matters to me and my family because we all have to do our part to help the environment. If we don’t help the environment, everything will become polluted like the lakes and the oceans. Every little bit helps so everyone has a responsibility to do what they can. You might not think you’re going to make any difference with the small things you do, but you will. So let’s all work together to help our planet, so that we have a safe and clean EARTH for everyone for many years. When I’m older, I want a healthy earth and not a polluted one. I want green grass, fresh lakes, no garbage and the sun to shine.

One website that I found intersting is http://www.greengreengrocer.co.uk/newspaper-bags which is a website from England that talks about how important it is not to use plastic bags. The website is for a store that sells fruits and vegetables from local farms and they only use bags made from recycle newspaper. I made one of the bags myself using their instructions and I put a picture of me and it on my personal blog.

If you want to learn more about Reusing, Reducing and Recycling you should vist the waste management centre in Brampton. It’s really great and fun to learn about it. Their website is http://www.peelregion.ca/pw/waste/facilities/piwmf.html

Nabeel–interesting paragraph. I like your comments on paper. It sounds like you and your family are taking small steps to make changes for everyone. Thanks…Mr.Woods
My family will do three things

    1. Walk or ride a bike more
    2. Recycle more
    3. Use less paper

Earth hour does matter to me because if we didn’t have it then there would be lots of pollution and if we do it the pollution becomes less. it is about awareness. Walking or riding a bike helps because you’re using less pollution when walking or riding a bike then riding in a car. Recycling helps because the things that get recycled get made into other things or just reused. An example would be paper. Paper gets recycled and then reused. Using less paper helps because if you use less paper then trees don’t get cut that much and trees help us breathe.

So if we do all those things and more we can do less pollution.

    1.use less paper
    2.Recycle
    3.dont drive a much

Earth hour matters to me because it is a hour where you can save electricity
and paper. We need to cut back on using
electricity because when you make electricity it causes polution. We need to cut less trees down because trees clean the air.

3 things that me and my family will do for the rest of the week to become a little greener are:

    1.Recycle

    2.Save paper

3.Use electricity as less as posible

These small steps will help make a difference because because it is the day where everyone saves paper because this helps us save trees. Also, it is a the day where people recycle. And on earth day we turn off all the light s so why don’t we put that in to our own lifes by using electricity as less as posible.

    April 16, 2012 at 10:00 am (12 years ago)

    1. don’t litter on the streets

    2. recyle

    3.save paper.

i think being little greener is great because it can prevent from global warming etc. it can also prevent from animals eating the garbage and dieing.
when we recyle, it will be reused by other people. when we save paper, it saves our money! instead of wasting money just for paper u save money.

1.Don’t throw garbage on the street.
2.Don’t put lights on when your not useing it.
    3.Don’t use lots of paper.
I think its buter if you don’t litter so Animals will not eat garbage and animals will not die.
save money if your not useing lights.
Don’t use lots of paper saveing trees and saveing money.

The 3 things my family and I will do:

-Walk to school instead of driving

    -Do not litter

    -Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Earth day is important to me because it saves the environment. Some of the things that we can do to help the environment are, we should reduce the amount of paper that we are using so that it will help reduce the amount of trees that are being cut down every day. For example, you are working on a painting and you mess up you can use the other side, instead of getting another sheet of paper. By walking to school we can save gas and cause less pollution. We can also not litter. By reducing the litter we wont dirty the environment.
