Describe “it” in your own words

A descriptive paragraph explains an image, video, song or anything  with adverbs (words that describe an action; runfast)and adjectives (words that describe a noun; black hair).

Look at these pictures.

Pick one picture and explain in a detailed paragraph or poem words what you see.  Talk us through in detail with adjectives and adverbs what is going on in your image that you chose.

Don’t tell us which image you chose…as readers, we will try and guess which one you are explaining.

Tuesday things

Gym tomorrow.

Comment on video if you like. How are they persuading you with their product in this video, even though the first time it not clear what product is being sold.

Is this a let down for you as someone who likes good moviews or is this just brilliant advertising?

Stranded…what now?

Imagine that you are shipwrecked on an island far away from civilization.
What would be 6 things you would grab before the ship went down to survive?
Explain your answers with detail and why you made those choices.

WhaT is ArT to U?

What is art?

A hard question to answer isn’t it. The truth is, art means different things to different people.  For some, an woven rug is considered beautiful art,  or a poem written by a person you’ve never met, or a cd jacket cover or even the way you dress each day.  Depending on our cultural and life experiences, art means different things to all of us.

There are many definitions that artists have come up with, but there isn’t a single one that all can agree on.

So here’s your chance.  Think.

Write a paragraph on what art means to you or how does it or may have influenced your lifestyle.

Is Hallowe’en the perfect treat or is the hype not worth it?

History of Hallowe’en: http://www.history.com/content/halloween

or http://www.halloweenhistory.org/

Write a paragraph outlining your position. Make sure you have an interesting opening sentence and an interesting closer.

Student example:

Trick-Or-Treat!Halloween is the best night ever! You can enjoy time with friends, eat candy and dress up as what every person or thing you want!It is the 2′nd best time to pull pranks on people. It is a scary, tasty, fun time. When ever i finish trick-or-treating i always trade candy with friends.Halloween is the 1 of the best holidays ever!HAPPY HALLOWEEN!-BOO!

or:

Hallowen is not a great holiday, if it’s a holiday shouldn’t you get a day off of school and work? Why isn’t it during the whole day? Why? I tell you why to scare you silly and for what, a little bit of candy! I could get some candy for less then a buck.
After you go trick or treating you go to bed thinking about monsters and stuff that could kill you after going to a very scary house. Lots of people that used to do it don’t what to do it any more. Why? Because it isn’t a good holiday. I don’t like to get scared. Do you?

Share your ideas.

Soundtrack of your life

Music and Literacy:  Due Monday

Music is linked to how we learn how to read and write.  Music is tied to emotions such as sadness or happiness.  Music is celebrations, culture and what your friends listen too.  It is an important part of who we are as people.

Choose a mimimum of 5 songs and a maximum of 10 songs that are important to you.  They can be songs that:  are cultural, fun, important links to your family (wedding song for example) or songs that mean a lot to you.

Choose two songs and write a paragraph for each describing their importance to you.  The other remaining songs we will try and guess their importance and significance to you as a person.

Good luck. Enjoy your listening.

mmm…soooo…goood!

cakeAs an advertising writer for a food magazine, it is your job to write a “delicious” paragraph explaining your favourite food.  You could write about any food of choice, from a chocolate cake to a tasty beverage.  Remember, you must include lots of adjectives to make the reader feel or taste how good your food is! Mmmmm, I am hungry just thinking about my tasty, creamy black forest cake.

Remember to open with a powerful opening sentence.  Fill in the details throughout your ad paragraph explaining your treat. Lastly, end your paragraph with an awesome closing sentence.

Happy Writing, or shall I say…. Happy Eating.

To Test or Not To Test?

Today, we explored and investigated positive and negative testing experiences, whether on the soccer field, in a gym class or just at home. There was so many varied experiences from the whole class.

Here’s your chance to complain or say great things about “tests”.

Should teachers test students, why or why not?  In your own experiences, have you ever been stressed, worried or nervous before a test and forgotten what you studied.  Or, do you look forward to being tested and challenged for what you studied.  What kinds of tests do you like or dislike.  Where else are people tested outside of school….and how are they tested.

These are just a couple of questions to start your thinking.

We look forward to your “well thought out” paragraph responses.
