Spring is….

Spring is…

Write a poem, short skit, or paragraph describing all things spring.  Saturday broke records for temperature in April, it was a great day that made us all to have spring on our minds.

Ahhhhh…..the season of spring. Spring is putting away winter clothes away for another year. Spring is having the sun come out early in the morning and stay up longer at night.  Spring is running and playing outside without jackets.  Spring is starting each day with a smile on our faces.  Spring reminds me of the tulip festival in Ottawa.  Spring is a time for us to clean our rooms and watch Kindree’s grass turn green. Spring is golfing. Spring is enjoying recess once again. Spring is here and well worth the wait.  What is spring to you?

Describe what you see.

A descriptive paragraph explains an image, video, song or anything  with adverbs (words that describe an action; run fast)and adjectives (words that describe a noun; black hair).

Look at these pictures.

Pick one picture and explain in a detailed paragraph or poem words what you see.  Talk us through in detail with adjectives and adverbs what is going on in your image that you chose.

Don’t tell us which image you chose…as readers, we will try and guess which one you are explaining.

Music and how it makes us learn to read

Do you hum the alphabet song when trying to remember if “s” comes before “t”?  Do you remember songs easier than your timetables?

Whatever your experiences with music, music classes, choir,  piano/guitar etc., lessons or just listening to cd’s/mp3’s, we all think it is cool in different ways.

In your life, explain to us your experiences on the impact that music has had on you learning how to read and write.

To be or not to be?

Speeches….

Your experience of the last three weeks as brought many emotions, hard work and working on your speaking craft.

List the top 5 things that you learned from the “process” of giving a speech.

As well, give one piece of advice to anyone who will be giving a speech in the future.

Testing Students?

Here’s your chance to complain or say great things about “tests”.

Should teachers test students, why or why not?  In your own experiences, have you ever been stressed, worried or nervous before a test and forgotten what you studied.  Or, do you look forward to being tested and challenged for what you studied.  What kinds of tests do you like or dislike.  Where else are people tested outside of school….and how are they tested.

These are just a couple of questions to start your thinking.

We look forward to your “well thought out” paragraph answers.

Graphiti challenges us

Graphiti.

A topic that angers some and makes others love it.

Is Graphiti art or is it vandalism or is it both?

Pick one of these positions and outline your reasons in a paragraph form why you believe in your opinion.  Provide proof.

Artists such as Kaws and Banksy are challenging our “usual” views of what art means to us.  Yet, others believe that graphiti destroys public urban spaces.

We are all interested to read your thoughts on this question?

What is Art?

What is art?

A hard question to answer isn’t it. The truth is, art means different things to different people.  For some, an woven rug is considered beautiful art,  or a poem written by a person you’ve never met, or a cd jacket cover or even the way you dress each day.  Depending on our cultural and life experiences, art means different things to all of us.

There are many definitions that artists have come up with, but there isn’t a single one that all can agree on.

So here’s your chance.  Think.

Write a paragraph on what art means to you or how does it or may have influenced your lifestyle.

Soundtrack of your Life

bob-dylan-try-and-catch-the-wind (My wedding song)

Music and Literacy:  Due Wednesday.

Music is linked to how we learn how to read and write.  Music is tied to emotions such as sadness or happiness.  Music is celebrations, culture and what your friends listen too.  It is an important part of who we are as people.

Choose a mimimum of 5 songs and a maximum of 10 songs that are important to you.  They can be songs that:  are cultural, fun, important links to your family (wedding song for example) or songs that mean a lot to you.

Choose two songs and write a paragraph for each describing their importance to you.  The other remaining songs we will try and guess their importance and significance to you as a person.

Good luck. Enjoy your listening.

Blog questions for you to consider:

What do you think members of the American Library Association or the Ontario Library Assosication (Silver Birch Awards)  look for when choosing winning books?  Besides seeking out award-winning titles, how else can you or other readers find great books?  Does talking to your friends or others who may recommend  books to you change or have an impact on your choice of books?  What does winning an award mean to an author or the people who print books?
